Well it could be that Nicolas used a simpler and efficient
environment(OCaml) to write compiler and MMC used more complex development
environment (c++, lex, yacc etc). Slackware linux is packaged and maintained
by a single guy too. You can have same argument comparing slackware quality
etc with say redhat or SuSe. Only issue with slackware was that the
development on it was stalled for couple months when the author was sick and
the people were waiting for the next release.
About mmc compiler I remember in one of the releases of Flash 5 or 6 player
I was getting false result for if(1==1) comparision.
